Asus EEEpc the Hakkers best friend pt2...

well i made a pot of tea and i have my last cigarette EVER in my hand now so ive decided to give you a bit more of my time on this subject. Another great feature of this amazing machine is the built in sdhc card reader, this means MORE FLASH STORAGE yey. Now there are draw backs to flash media such as the life span, you only get about 500000 writes to a good one before you have to bin it and get a new one, however they are so cheap nowadays even for good ones that this really isnt an issue. I obtained a new SDHC MMC card 32gb for only £42 including shipping from mymemmory.com i feel I felt that £42 for about 18months worth of moderate to heavy use of 32gb of storage is a very good deal and when i come to upgrade this again its either gonna cost less for the same or im gonna be able to get more for the same money. Now if your interested in the eee for the same main reason that i was (the "War Driving" potential) your gonna need a seperate operating system such as "Backtrack" you can download this from

http://www.remote-exploit.org/cgi-bin/fileget?version=bt3-usb

all you need to do is download this to your usb device or as i have an sdhc card in windows, and open it go into the boot folder then double click the "bootinstall" bat file (little dos window icon)
now your ready to go that simple. now plug your flash device into your asus and reboot. at the first boot screen hit f2 now select your device as the first boot device and save changes and exit. now just wait for the linux kernel to load select the top graphics setting when asked and your in.
Backtrack has some excellent features and a massive host of software like airsnort Kismet and miloworm to name just a few the video codecs for watching films and video files is a let down otherwisse i would have said this slax based os would be a great main operating system... aahh well (sigh)

Now lets look at battery life. a new and well kept battery will last about two hours with constant wireless maybe three without the wireless on. I have looked into all the different ways to extend this such as installing a solar panel on the back or even modding another battery to charge the original up and the best way to optimise your battery life is to purchase another battery, the Extended asus 6600mah battery at £42 from http://www.battery-locator.co.uk. This comes with 6 cells and will last the user around 5 hours plus a smart user will carry his or her old fully charged battery with them as a backup giving them around 8 hours of constant use. There is rumours of a new "All day battery" however long they gauge a full day???

ok im making another pot of tea so see you soon
